Today I Saw You

 By Robert W. Cluney

Today I saw you at the corner

I watched as I walked down the street

I saw your hair move at your shoulders

The breeze moved a curl at your cheek

As I stood there behind you my heart ached

I thought of what you meant to me

My arms were trembling to hold you

But I knew that could never be

You stepped from the curb when the light changed

I tried to think of something to say

But all I could do was follow

Though I really wasn’t going that way

Then over your shoulder I saw him

And I turned quickly aside

I saw your reflection in a window

My poor heart just broke down and cried

You lifted your foot as you kissed him

I wished that I couldn’t see

My mind flew over the years dear

For that’s how you used to kiss me
