The North Sea Oil Rig

By Robert W. Cluney

An oil rigger told me this story in a dream, after the North Sea oil disaster.

I was an oil rigger

Out in the northern sea

Little did I know

It would be the death of me

We heard the metal cracking

We felt the breakers blow

The next thing we know

We were ten fathoms below

We saw the water boiling up

In the battery lamps' eerie glow

Each man said his final prayers

Ten fathoms down below

Now the fish swim slowly by

Little do they care or know

Of the brave men who lost their lives

Ten fathoms down below
