Texas Might Have Been Heaven

 By Robert W. Cluney

When the good Lord came to Texas

He said I’ll make this the promised land

He cleared away all the rubble

Down to the drifting sand

Then he heard about California

And He started out to roam

Texas might have been heaven

If God had stayed at home

When God saw California

He said what am I working for

This land has everything I need

How could I ask for more

He never went back to Texas

He left that state alone

Texas might have been heaven

If God had stayed at home

Now I told you the story

I know it must be true

I got it from a Californian

And passed it on to you

God is alive and kicking

California is his home

Texas might have been heaven

If God had stayed at home
