Smiling Meditation

Smiling Meditation: We will watch a video by Swami Beyondananda called "Don't Get Even...Get Odd." His humor lightens and enlightens. We will also listen to an excerpt from Thich Nhat Han's audio tape, "Looking Deeply." In this segment he explains and teaches his smiling meditation. We will then practice smiling and breathing.

Swami Beyond Ananda

Once in many lifetimes comes a being who is so evolved, so enlightened, so pure that the entire world is transformed. Well, we don't seem to have anyone like that around these days. But we do have Swami Beyondananda, whose favorite yoga postures are tongue-in-cheek and foot-in-mouth. The Swami, who has been called the Guru of Ho-Ho-Holy Hee-Hee-Healing, believes that life is duck soup -- and we are the laughingstock. And he has taken on the mission of helping us all make a hearty laughingstock out of our own ingredients.

Thich Nhat Hanh

In "Looking Deeply" Thich Nhat Hanh discusses smiling meditation. This simple practice has astounding result. In this audio presentation he explains the practice and the reasons behind it then gives you a chance to practice it. In other presentations he applies smiling meditation to telephones and stoplights. These normally annoying occurrences become mindfulness bells for deep breathing and smiling meditation.
