Red Dog Express

 By Robert W. Cluney

I rolled out of town then I put the hammer down

I was late getting out on the line

I saw a red light, I pulled to the right

That smokey pulled right in behind

I rolled to a stop, I'm gonna argue with the cop

The Red Dog just wasn't out of line

I look down from my cab, got the worst shock I ever had

Blue eyes were smiling up at mine

She was so pretty I tried to be witty

But her smile made my mind a mess

She wore a star, drove a black and white car

And I drove the Red Dog Express

I climbed down to the ground, when I turned around

She was writing something on her pad

She handed it to me, by her smile I could see

That would be the nicest ticket I ever had

She said I saw you back away, at the Roadside Cafe

You were drinking coffee in a booth

Then to my surprise I realized

I couldn’t take a chance on you gettin' loose

When you pulled out on the line I dropped in behind

I had a date with the Red Dog Express

When you put the hammer down, my excuse I found

And I think you know the rest

Now when I roll into town I don't put the hammer down

I just turn on my CB Radio and call

Braker 1-9 Braker 1-9, this is Red Dog callin' little silver star

Back comes her voice - come on home Red Dog,

Supper's waitin' and so am I

And fifteen truckers cut in and yell go for it Old Buddy
