Never Street

 By Robert W. Cluney

I live on Never Street

In old Heartbreak Hotel

Where the ladies of the night bring their prey

I live with the winos' smell

Never Street is a cold old street

Even on the warmest day

Then at night it's a place of fright

That makes you turn away

I have walked on Never Street

The street that never ends

And watched the devil steal the souls

Of a thousand troubled men

He preyed on the weak and sick of mind

And lead them to the gates of hell

Where they will lay dead drunk to the end of their days

In a room in Heartbreak Hotel

Some day I'll check out of that hotel

On the street that never ends

I try to find some peace of mind

And start life over again

This is the street that never ends

And a story I know so well

For I know I'll spend the rest of my days

In old Heartbreak Hotel
