My Dad

By Robert W. Cluney

When I was a boy

My heart filled with joy

At the good times I spent with my dad

He was my friend

A man among men

The best friend a boy ever had

He could make a kite

That balanced just right

He knew how to make a whistle from reeds

He knew everything

He'd whistle and sing

As he told of brave men and their deeds

He told me the stories of the west and it's glories

Where he'd punched cattle as a lad

He told me of the strife

Where he learned to take the good with the bad

Now dad is gone

His memory lingers on

I think of him each day that I live

For he was my friend

A man among men

The best friend a man ever had
