Fifty-Five Years Ago

 By Robert W. Cluney

I met the girl when she was twenty-one

And she was a beauty to see

I never knew what a girl like that

Could see in a guy like me

But now as my memory wanders back

I'm sure glad to know

That I married the girl I met fifty-five years ago

Our love has run on through the years

Though it hit a bump or two

I still get a thrill when she holds my hand

And says darling I love you

The years have put lines in her face

Time will take its toll

But when I look at her I see the girl I married

Fifty-five years ago
