Capitola by the Sea

 By Robert W. Cluney

I went down to Capitola

The village by the sea

I thought I would take a look around

And let the girls look at me

I walked into a little cafe

There I saw a pretty blonde

Sitting at the table across from me

And man she was comin' on

Chorus

I had high hopes

And that's no joke

I saw how she looked at me

Down in Capitola

The village by the sea

I walked over to her table

And set down in a chair

That's when I saw that big coat

I hadn't seen a hangin' there

Just then he walked in through the door

And looked me in the eye

He reached out and grabbed my arm

I thought I was goin' to die

Repeat Chorus

She said now Joe, he didn't know

He didn't mean no harm

Meanwhile that big 'grilla

Is twinstin' off my arm

She stepped up beside me

Slipped something in my hand

She gave be a little wink

Like I should understand

Repeat Chorus

This big guy shoved me out the door

I looked in my hand

I had her telephone number

And call me tonight about ten

I gav'er her a telephone call

Her voice purred in my ear

She said all those inviting words

That I wanted to hear

Repeat Chorus

She said come up and see me

I'm just three blocks away

I said honey hang up that phone

I'm already on my way

Now that's not all the story

But all I'm going to tell

But if I ever meet that guy named Joe

I'm gone' a run like hell
